Mr Stephen Blake is a consultant trauma and orthopaedic surgeon based at Mount Stuart and Torbay General hospitals. The majority of his practice is within the field of lower limb arthroplasty – hip and knee, with a special interest in the more complex primary and revision hip arthroplasty work.
He graduated from University College London and quickly made his way down to the south west of England where he completed both his basic and higher surgical training. He has had a close relationship with the Exeter hip unit for a number of years and has been their senior registrar, fellow and locum consultant, working alongside Messers Gie and Timperley.
In addition to his interest in arthroplasty Mr Blake also has a wealth of experience in dealing with orthopaedic trauma and has completed a dedicated trauma fellowship in Auckland, New Zealand with one of the world’s most respected trauma leaders. He is organising and chairing a national symposium on lower limb peri-prosthetic fractures, which is to be held locally later this year.
Mr Blake has published extensively with nearly 30 articles in peer review journals. He has written many book chapters on the subject of hip arthroplasty including one for an American advanced orthopaedic textbook series and has co-authored a number of chapters in the forthcoming Exeter Experience textbook. He has had work presented on both the national and international stage.
His outside interests revolve around his family and sport. Whilst at university he was awarded full sports colours and was nominated as Sportsman of the Year for all London Universities in 1996.
In the near future both physicians and patients will be able to access further information on Mr Blake and the conditions he treats via his own website: www.torbayhipsurgeon.co.uk
