John Charity graduated from the Federal University of Sao Paulo, in Sao Paulo, Brazil in 1996. Surgical training was in Brazil and orthopaedic training under the auspices of the Brazilian Society of Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery. Having visited Exeter for an observership from August to December 2001, he then stayed at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, USA in a Visiting Clinician Programme in early 2002. He then did an arthroplasty fellowship in Exeter from July 2002 to June 2003 at the Princess Elizabeth Orthopaedic Centre. After completing this he continued at this Institution undertaking various research projects into femoral impaction grafting and a review of the long term results of both primary and revision total hip arthroplasty in Exeter, also having active participation at regional, national and international meetings in the field.
